Design Challenge
Knowing the fascination weavers have for circles prompted Sarah to look for a circular motif that could be woven on four shafts.
A Manipulated Draft
An overshot draft in A Handweaver's Pattern Book forms a circular shape with an alternate treadling that is more oval. By interweaving a parallel threading with the original draft allowed Sarah to manipulate the draft and push the shapes in the direction she wanted. A "roundabout" way of creating a circular shape on four shafts!
Design Inspiration
The colors were inspired by a photo in a catalog of a beautiful upholstery fabric in blues and greens with some warmer tones mixed in. Sampling within that palette resulted in some surprises. I think you'll be surprised how changing one color in the weft shifts the overall color from muted greens to brighter blues and greens!
