How to Spin Ginned Cotton
To prepare for spinning, either hand-fluff by pulling on the fibers, but not pulling them apart, making sure to work out all lumps, or by gently hand card (preferably with fine toothed cotton cards) small amounts at a time.
Cotton needs a lot of twist to hold it together as a yarn.
The long draw is best in spinning most cottons. Allow a small amount of twist to enter the fiber as you elongate the fiber mass.
Once some twist is added to the fiber, you can gently pull on the loosely bound fibers to elongate it even further. Then add more twist to insure that the strand will not pull apart.
Continue to intermittently add more twist to the yarn until you can not elongate it further. Add extra twist before winding yarn on your bobbin.
