The Birth of Cotton Clouds
Irene Schmoller... Founder of Cotton Clouds
Borne from the Seeds of Change
"It was late 1978. The era of polyester. Not many people were even thinking of cotton. But after taking a spinning workshop at Convergence '78 sponsored by Handweaver's Guild of America with Harry & Olive Linder, the cotton spinning gurus at the time, I was hooked on cotton.
I came home, took everything out of my closet that wasn't 100% cotton (and in those days there wasn't much!) and decide that my spinning and weaving would be devoted exclusively to cotton.
Yet I couldn't find the cotton yarns I was looking for to weave healthy, handmade children's clothing. I did some research and finally found a few manufacturer's who were willing to sell cotton yarns to me. Then I thought, "If I couldn't find cotton yarns, I bet other knitters and weavers couldn't either. "That's when I decided to start a mail order source of quality cotton yarns that everyone could afford. Cotton Clouds was born!
Now, over 30 years & 100,000 satisfied Cotton Clouds customers later, we are the #1 source of cotton yarns on the planet! That's been our story for the past 30 plus years. Come along with us into the 21st century as Cotton Clouds becomes the #1 source of cotton yarns in the universe!
We're here to serve all your cotton needs. Just let us know how we can best do that!

Payment: We accept Visa, MasterCard, Discover and American Express as well as money orders. Sorry no C.0.D.'s.
Special Order: While we can't possibly stock the 1,000's of yarn colors manufactured, we can Special Order them for you.
If a skein yarn color is shown as S.O. when ordering a color from the Color Chart, you must order that yarn in multiples of 10 skeins (1 bag) per color. We cannot break bags. So, if you need 15 skeins of one color, you need to order 20 skeins or 2 bags. If this is not practical, consider another yarn with a greater selection of stocked colors. The only exception is Gypsy Chenille Solid. If a yarn color is shown as S.O. and you want to order it as a skein, you will have to order it as a cone.
If a yarn is manufactured in both skeins & cones, we generally stock it in skeins. However, you can Special Order this yarn on a cone, in any color shown as stocked or S.O. on its corresponding Color Chart.
There is a 15% restocking fee on all Special Order yarns.
Please allow 2 extra weeks delivery on all Special Order yarns.

Color Chart: Our FullColor Yarn Color Chart is our exclusively designed yarn color system! We developed this color vocabulary after analyzing over 2000 colors of actual yarn samples. Colors are grouped into 20 color families and then subdivided into 180 generic colors. Each color block represents one of these generic colors. These 120 generic colors are only approximate representations of actual dyed yarns and color representation will vary from computer to computer. We have provided them to you to help you order. If you are very particular about a yarn color we suggest that you first order the Color Card for that yarn to see actual dyed yarn samples and be guaranteed that you will receive the exact color you need. However, if your color can vary slightly, we highly recommend using the Cotton Clouds Color Chart for each yarn in the shopping cart.
Color Cards: If you are particular about color, the best way to see actual dyed yarn samples is to order the individual Color Card for the yarn you are interested in. This will give you the truest way to know what color you are ordering. Every yarn has it's own color card. Skein and cone colors are shown on the same card. Many of our color cards are also available as color copies made on a high quality DC-50 Xerox Color Copier and are fairly true to colors. You can order these through our shopping cart by clicking on the Color Card tab with each Yarn description.
Can't Find It? We can Special Order you any yarn manufactured by Berroco, Classic Elite, Crystal Palace, Ironstone, JCA/Reynolds, Ruby Mills, Silk City Fibers, S.R. Kertzer, Tahki/Stacy Charles, UKI (Supreme) as well as any spinning or weaving product from Ashford, Harrisville Designs and Schacht Spindle Company.
